Context

Soundproofing of a thermal plant. A Public Services Company in Brunico is managing the San Giorgio thermal power plant, which was built to cover winter peaks in the district heating network.

A few years ago, there was a need to increase heat and power productivity, so the existing heating system was expanded by adding two cogenerators each of which with 1700Kw thermal performance and 1500 Kw electric.


The two cogenerators were installed within a new construction of 15 to 20m in size.
The declared engine noise was 97 dB(A) at 1m.

The power plant will be built inside a reinforced concrete building in a very silent valley.
Attenuation to reach 75 dB(A) at 1m from the enclosure, the outside will have to guarantee 55 dB(A) at 1m from the silencers.

Solution

After the inspection, we designed two soundproofed enclosures with a ventilation system that is adequately dimensioned based on the engine air flow rate and the required acoustic attenuation.

To achieve the required attenuation, we designed two soundproof enclosures, each containing a cogenerator.

The bearing structure studied on the basis of static and seismic calculation, to ensure stability and safety for the personnel involved in carrying out maintenance work.
Sound absorbing sound isolating panel made with a diverse density mat to ensure adequate absorption of sound waves.

Panel made with fire retardant material.
Robust double-door openings with anti-panic bar.

Results

The result was to bring the noise from 103 dB(A) to 75dB(A) at 1m

The soundproofing operation reached the limits set by the acoustic zoning of the territory.
